Future Home's mission is serving people with disabilities, their families, and professionals interested in some of today's technological solutions to living with severe disabilities. Demonstrating technology, sharing architectural solutions, and building bridges between the medical and building professionals are just a few of the instruments used to change the way people think individuals with disabilities and our aging population should live. We hope in their homes, and not in a nursing home.
Technology will never replace the tender loving care of another human being. However, technologies can be developed or existing technologies enhanced to make most people with severe disabilities more self-sufficient and improve their quality of life and, more important the QUALITY IN LIFE.
The universally designed Future Home has incorporated as many accessible features as possible without compromising the historical features of the facility. Future Home is a national demonstration and has something to offer everyone. It is an excellent example of a universally designed environment.
Future Home is demonstrating to the world that people can live, work, and play in their own communities when currently available technologies, primarily in home automation and communication electronics, coupled with architectural accommodations, can give consumers with disabilities able-bodied equivalent control over their environment.
The need to continue applying cutting edge technology to increase independence for all people with disabilities, older adults, and those who care for them, still exists. Operating expenses for this worthwhile endeavor are very costly. If individuals would like to financially assist Future Home's ongoing work, it would assure the projects destiny.
